Officers in Anglesey are intensifying efforts to protect victims of domestic abuse over the Christmas period.

The operation throughout December aims to safeguard victims and deter perpetrators as statistics show incidents of domestic abuse tend to rise around this time of year.

It will see two extra police officers carrying out extra safeguarding visits to those identified as being at high risk of domestic abuse.

District Sergeant Christopher Burrow said: “Historically, incidents of domestic abuse sadly increase over the Christmas period.

“Everyone has the right to feel safe. The introduction of dedicated officers over the Christmas period will ensure we have additional resources to respond effectively to reports of domestic abuse incidents and provide an excellent service to victims.”

The dedicated officers will be the first to attend incidents of domestic abuse to give a consistent and professional service to victims.

Their colleagues will then take robust actions against perpetrators.

This approach allows police enquiries to be conducted more quickly, and leads to a shorter investigation overall, hopefully leading to positive outcome more quickly.

Additionally, the extra officers will re-visit previous victims of domestic abuse incidents to check if they have any concerns around offenders adhering to bail conditions or domestic violence prevention orders (DVPO). Any breaches of these conditions will be dealt with.

Sergeant Burrow added: “This proactive approach to carry out regular checks on those who are subject of bail and DVPOs may prevent further incidents of domestic abuse.

“Domestic abuse in any form will not be tolerated. I would urge anyone who experiences abuse to seek support. You are not alone. We will listen and fully investigate any report made to us.

“We are committed to supporting victims of abuse at all times and not just at Christmas, and the extra resources dedicated to domestic abuse will continue.”

If you experience domestic abuse, or know someone who does, report it to the police or seek support from Live Fear Free on 0808 80 10 800.
