Overnight road closures will be introduced on Malpas Road in Newport as part of a programme of resurfacing work.
Newport City Council has confirmed that the work will begin on Monday, September 14, as part of its Fixing Our Roads programme.
The first section will cover Malpas Road between the M4 Junction 26 roundabout and the junction with Pillmawr Road.
Work will take place overnight between 8pm and 5am, with the final night scheduled for Friday, September 18.
Both sides of Malpas Road between the M4 junction and Bettws Lane will be resurfaced. The northbound carriageway between Bettws Lane and Pillmawr Road will also be resurfaced.
The southbound side of this section was resurfaced earlier this year in May.
Further work is planned on Malpas Road to the north of this area, with dates and times expected to be announced shortly.
Road closures
The northbound side of Malpas Road between the M4 and Bettws Lane will be fully closed between 8pm and 5am on each night of the work.
The other two sections being resurfaced will be subject to timed closures during the same period.
The council said this flexible approach would allow as much access as possible to be maintained for residents.
Pedestrian access and access for emergency vehicles will remain available at all times.
Access for residents
Access to the Blaen-y-Pant estate will be available through Bettws Lane only, while Bettws Lane itself will be accessible from the north via Malpas Road.
The Graig Park Estate will remain accessible at all times, while Hollybush Avenue will be accessible through Westfield Way only.
Residents and businesses on Old Malpas Road will be given opportunities to enter and leave whenever possible.
Fire crews at Malpas Fire Station will be able to leave the station to respond to emergencies throughout the work.
Residents and businesses on the northbound section of Malpas Road between Bettws Lane and Pillmawr Road will be provided with access and exit opportunities until late evening.
Bus services to be affected
Bus services using Malpas Road will be affected by the closures. Passengers are advised to check with their service provider for details of any changes.
The work is expected to generate some noise and dust, although the council said efforts would be made to keep disruption to a minimum.
Drivers travelling through the Malpas and Bettws areas during the work are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
