A Yellow weather warning for ice has been issued for parts of Wales and the UK this morning, Wednesday, with people urged to take extra care when travelling.
The Met Office says clearing skies overnight have allowed temperatures to drop below freezing shortly after midnight. Following recent wet weather, this has led to patchy ice forming on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
Icy conditions are most likely during the early morning, particularly on rural routes and less busy surfaces that may not have been treated.
The Met Office is advising people to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys. Leaving the house a few minutes earlier than usual can help reduce the risk of slips, falls and accidents caused by rushing.
Anyone travelling on foot is advised to stick to pavements along main roads, which are more likely to be gritted. Cyclists are also encouraged to use main routes where possible. Drivers should check road conditions before setting off, while public transport users are advised to keep an eye on bus and train timetables in case of disruption.
People are also reminded that weather warnings can change, and it is important to stay up to date with the latest local forecast throughout the day.
Areas of Wales affected by the Yellow ice warning include:
- Blaenau Gwent
- Caerphilly
- Carmarthenshire
- Conwy
- Denbighshire
- Flintshire
- Gwynedd
- Merthyr Tydfil
- Neath Port Talbot
- Powys
- Rhondda Cynon Taf
- Wrexham
Further updates will be issued if conditions worsen or the warning is extended.
