A feast of fantastic football and fabulous food is heading to the spectacular surroundings of Pembroke Castle in May and raising money for a vital charity at the same time.

The Chomp-i-ons League Festival, being organised by Pembrokeshire County Council’s Regeneration and Business Support teams, will see Street Football teams take to the pitches within the magnificent Castle walls while supporters and families enjoy great food, music and fun.

The event will be held on Friday 24th May at Pembroke Castle between 4pm and 10pm and is free to enter for those not playing as part of a team (see below for how to book online tickets).

Inflatable football courts and target practice will keep the little ones busy while Samba Doc, street dancers and Pure West Radio provide the bank holiday weekend vibe.

The event will support the charity 2 Wish, set up by Rhian Mannings, originally from Neyland.

Rhian set up the charity following the sudden deaths of her baby son George and husband Paul within five days in 2012.

2 Wish was created in their memory to support parents who suddenly suffer bereavement and now operates across Wales.

The 2 Wish team are huge advocates for the healing power of sport and group activities so they are the perfect partners for the event.

The ethos of the event is team and family fun, inclusion and fair play while also celebrating Pembrokeshire’s exciting street food scene.

One of the organisers is former professional footballer Jo Price, who is now Community Regeneration Officer at Pembrokeshire County Council.

Jo played for Arsenal and Wales and brings expertise and passion and is a big champion of Street Football.

Jo has also been named Head Coach for the Wales Street Football Women’s National Team for a tournament held in Dublin later this year.

Jo said: “The beauty of this format is its accessibility – being suitable for all abilities and no experience necessary.

“It is about team work, enjoyment and inclusion and what could be better for a bank holiday weekend than food and football, music and fun and all for such a great cause.”

Fellow organiser Maria Goddard, Economic Development Officer – Food Sector, at the Council, said: “We are hugely excited to bring together our love of sport, food, festivals for this unique event.

“We also welcome local business sponsorship to ensure everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy this first of its kind, footy and food festival. Come and join us for what promises to be a superb family day out.”

Tickets to the event are free but need to be booked online.

Donations for 2 Wish are appreciated at the point of entry.
