    Penarth launches Placemaking Plan to shape town’s future

    Penarth has officially launched its awaited Placemaking Plan, marking a major step forward in shaping the town’s future.

    The launch event, hosted by Penarth Town Council at Turner House, was attended by members of the community along with the Deputy Mayor of Penarth and the Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

    Both leaders emphasised that the launch marks the start of the next stage of the Placemaking process, with the implementation phase set to begin in October when the Penarth Town Board meets for the first time.

    From there, Project Teams will be formed to develop initiatives across the town, drawing on a variety of funding sources.

    Cllr Laura Rochefort, Penarth Town Council’s Deputy Mayor, said: “I would like to thank all those that attended the formal launch of the Placemaking Plan at Turner House.

    “The event marked the beginning of the next phase of Placemaking within Penarth and we look forward to seeing how this plan provides opportunities for the Town Council and for the many community groups within Penarth to be involved within the development process.”

    Cllr Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “It was wonderful to see such a fantastic turnout for the Placemaking Plan launch in Penarth, and reflects the community’s passion for making Penarth a great place to live.

    “Placemaking is about more than just making physical improvements – it’s about creating places where people feel connected and valued. I’m excited to see how the community’s ideas will help shape the next chapter for the town.”

    Placemaking is a people-centred approach aimed at making towns and community spaces more welcoming, vibrant, and enjoyable for everyone.

    It can include everything from major infrastructure improvements to cultural events and small local projects, all designed to strengthen community connection and a sense of belonging.

    While some projects will take time to come to fruition, the Placemaking Plan provides a roadmap to ensure Penarth continues to grow as a sustainable and vibrant town for both current and future generations.
