Pencoed mum and daughter do drive through coffee morning

A mother and daughter are hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning with a difference – a drive through!

With the coronavirus making a face-to-face World’s Biggest Coffee Morning a challenge, Cerys Jones and her daughter Lowri Parsons decided to host theirs as a drive through.

Veteran Macmillan supporters Cerys and Lowri, 16, have asked attendees to order their tasty treats in advance of the event on Saturday 1 August.

They can either collect them from their home in Pencoed via drive through while socially distancing or the duo will deliver them for an additional donation to Macmillan.

And they have already almost quadrupled their initial £50 target in advance of the day.

Cerys said: “Obviously we wanted to do our annual coffee morning but realised that the usual way of doing it wouldn’t be possible.

“We knew that charities were already losing donations so we thought why not make cakes that we could either deliver or people could come and pick up while adhering to social distancing.”

Cerys and Lowri will be making 200 cupcakes for their drive through event.

The duo will also be serving cake pops, Welsh cakes and shortbread hearts.

Her daughter Lowri, a Cowbridge Comprehensive School pupil, said: “Coffee morning is a perfect mix of two things I love most – making cake and supporting Macmillan.

“Lots of the things that I had planned for this year have been cancelled and I didn’t want that to happen to the coffee morning.”

Macmillan Fundraising Manager Nicola Newhams said: “Cerys and Lowri are proof that nothing stops a Macmillan Coffee Morning and we are so grateful for their continued support.

“We are asking people to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning whatever way they like this year as people with cancer need us more than ever and we can’t be there without support for events such as our coffee morning.”

You can donate towards Cerys and Lowri’s virtual Macmillan Coffee Morning here.
