People across Cardiff are being urged to swap their car for the bus to celebrate the 7th annual Catch the Bus Week.

Cardiff Bus is taking part in the UK-wide Greener Journeys initiative, which aims to inspire people to leave the car at home and to promote the ease, comfort and environmental benefits of choosing sustainable bus travel.

The week, which runs from July 1st to July 7th, will see operators across the country hosting public information sessions and events to help promote bus travel to non-bus users.

The Catch the Bus Week campaign aims to raise awareness of all the environmental, health, social and economic benefits of using the bus instead of a car and is run by Greener Journeys, an organisation which promotes sustainable travel choices.

During the initiative Cardiff Bus will be giving away daily prizes via its Twitter and Facebook channels, including monthly bus tickets and prizes from some of Cardiff’s favourite businesses including Nando’s Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Devils, Techniquest and We Loves the Diff.

The bus operator will also host an information session outside the Capitol shopping centre on Queen Street between 10am and 2pm on Tuesday 2nd of July.  It will be an opportunity to find out more about bus travel and have a look around one of the operator’s buses.

Gareth Stevens, Acting Operations and Commercial Director at Cardiff Bus said the initiative was a “fantastic way” to highlight the various benefits of bus travel.

He said: “We at Cardiff Bus are pleased to be supporting the 7th annual Catch the Bus Week.

“This event is vital in highlighting the numerous benefits of bus travel, so we would encourage people to get involved and find out more.

“We look forward to seeing new faces opting to catch the bus and getting feedback on our services.

“Ditch the car, get involved and take a look at our latest vehicles which are modern, comfortable and WiFi enabled, helping you get the most out of your journey with us.”
