Caerphilly County Borough Council is pleased to share a further update on the proposed new integrated Children’s and Adults’ Respite Centre in Pontllanfraith, Blackwood.

The statutory Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) has now officially closed, and the Council has confirmed that no objections were received in response to the proposals. This represents a significant and positive milestone for the project and reflects the constructive engagement and feedback received from the local community and partners during the early stages of the project.

The proposed development includes a new purpose-built, six-bed Children’s Respite facility for children aged 5 to 18 years located alongside a new eight-bed Adult Respite facility for individuals aged 18 and over. This modern, flexible and accessible site is designed to meet the evolving needs of service users both now and in the future.

With the PAC phase now complete, the next step will be to submit a full planning application. Once submitted, the application will progress through the formal planning process for review and approval. Subject to planning approval being granted, the Council will be well positioned to move into the tender and construction phase, enabling work to begin on delivering this much-needed respite facility.

Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Council, commented “This Respite Centre will provide a much-needed facility for children and adults with learning and physical disabilities. I am extremely encouraged by the positive response received during the pre-application consultation with no objections raised. We believe passionately that it is our moral duty to provide this valued provision and this demonstrates strong support for the proposal within the community”.

Cllr Elaine Forehead, Cabinet Member for Social Care, said “This project represents a really important investment in the wellbeing of children, adults and families across Caerphilly. Respite plays a vital role in supporting independence, maintaining family resilience and ensuring carers are able to continue in their caring roles”.
