A consultation over plans for a business park, and an advanced manufacturing centre (AMC) for Mid Wales, to be built on the edge of Newtown is now open.

Asbri Planning will be leading on the work to gauge public opinion before a hybrid planning application for the 4.75-hectare CymruTech Park site, to the north of Llanidloes Road, is submitted.

Once the feedback has been assessed, Powys County Council aims to seek full planning approval for an access road, the first phase of business units and a green skills academy, and outline approval for further units and the AMC.

Copies of the proposed application, along with plans and supporting documents, can be viewed on Asbri Planning’s website: https://www.asbriplanning.co.uk/statutory-pre-application-consultation/land-to-the-north-of-llanidloes-road-newtown-powys

For those without internet access, computers are available at Newtown Library, Park Lane, Newtown, SY16 1EJ. It is open:

    • Mondays and Thursdays, 9am – 5pm
    • Tuesdays, 9am – 6pm
    • Fridays, 8am – 4pm
    • Saturdays, 9.30am – 1pm

A public engagement event will also be held at The Hafren, Llanidloes Road, Newtown, SY16 4HU, right next to the proposed CymruTech Park site, on Thursday 23 April, between 2 and 6pm.

Anyone wishing to comment on the proposed development should contact Asbri Planning at: [email protected] or Asbri Planning Ltd, Unit 9 Oak Tree Court, Mulberry Drive, Cardiff Gate Business Park, Cardiff, CF23 8RS by Friday 15 May 2026.

Daniel Burgess, Powys County Council’s Head of Economy and Climate said: “This is a chance to have your say on the plans we are developing, with partners, for the technology park we want to build next to Newtown College. There will also be further opportunities to comment when the hybrid planning application and any subsequent planning applications are submitted.

“Views expressed now, will not prevent further comments being made at a later date but are likely to be available for public review.”

The project is being developed in alignment with the Mid Wales Growth Deal, with an outline business case due to be considered by the Growing Mid Wales Board, which is accountable for the Growth Deal, in July.
