Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced the launch of a pre-application consultation for a new state-of-the-art operations depot on Dyffryn Business Park in Ystrad Mynach.

Plans for the new facility are a key part of the council’s ambitious Waste and Recycling Strategy and the implementation of Welsh Government’s ‘blueprint’ collections from 2028, which was agreed in Cabinet on 23rd July 2025.

Councillor Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste and Recycling, said: “Residents will be aware that we are working hard to increase the amount of waste that we recycle, and to achieve this we need a modern, fit‑for‑purpose facility here within the county borough.

The new facility will allow us to process all kerbside recycling material locally. It will also replace the council’s current operations depot in Tir‑y‑berth, helping us deliver a cleaner, greener, more efficient service for residents.”

The proposed facility will feature advanced sorting and baling equipment, insulated glass containers designed to minimise noise, and enclosed food waste storage which will be emptied daily to maintain the highest hygiene standards.

Cllr Morgan added: “This investment will help us meet ambitious recycling targets set by Welsh Government and help future-proof our waste and recycling services.”

A key stage in the planning process called the pre‑application consultation is now open. Residents are encouraged to visit the link below to view the proposals and share their feedback.
