South Wales Police have confirmed that threats which led to the closure of two Cardiff schools are now being treated as malicious communications.
The force said it first received a live chat at around 8.30pm on Sunday, March 15, making threats to harm people with weapons at Llanishen High School and Eastern High School. As a precaution, both schools were closed while investigations were carried out.
Further communication was then received late on Monday, March 16, relating to St Illtyd’s High School.
Police say extensive enquiries have since been conducted, including thorough searches at all three schools. Officers carried out searches overnight into the early hours of Tuesday, March 17.
Following those checks, no evidence has been found of anyone attending any of the schools posing a threat.
South Wales Police acknowledged the concern caused to families and the wider community, saying the incidents have led to disruption for pupils, parents and staff.
The investigation is ongoing as officers work to establish the origin of the malicious communications.
In the meantime, the force is urging the public not to speculate or share unverified information, and instead rely on updates from official sources.
They also thanked schools, parents and the wider community for their support and understanding while enquiries continue.
