Popular Cardiff pop-up restaurant set for summer return

A pop-up restaurant experience which sold out within minutes last year has announced new dates for summer 2022.

Last May, whilst hospitality in Wales was still limited to ‘outdoor opening only’ restrictions, one of Cardiff’s most popular restaurants found a creative way to continue trading; Victoria Park’s Michelin-recommended Nook moved both kitchen and dining room into a beautiful, 12 x 10m stretch tent situated on the bank of the River Taff.

With enough room to seat up to 35 socially distanced guests, ‘Nook by the River’ allowed customers to dine and drink next to the water, sampling seasonal small plates and sipping on a selection of Natural Wines. Before and / or after their reservations, customers were also able to enjoy a drink on Llandaff Rowing Club’s terrace, situated just next door.

The ‘Nook by the River’ pop up proved so popular that table bookings for last year’s entire four-week residency sold out within minutes of going on sale – prompting a frenzy of social media comments from customers hoping to take the place of any last-minute cancellations.

The good news is that the pop-up will return to the same location this summer, with sittings available to book Wednesday to Sunday, from 13th July until 7th August. Online reservations will go live at 10am on Monday 13th June at www.nookcardiff.co.uk/nookbytheriver.

Nook founders Phill & Deb Lewis (who also own and operate Kindle sustainable restaurant in Cardiff city centre, and Dusty’s Pizza restaurants across South Wales) said that the response to last year’s pop-up was so positive, they felt they had no choice but to bring it back for a second year.

Phill said, “Even as we were packing up the temporary kitchen last year, we knew we’d be bringing Nook by the River back – only this time (hopefully) the weather will be even better! It’s great to be working together with Llandaff Rowing Club again, and the location really is the perfect setting for the style of food we love to serve at Nook.”

Whilst the ‘Nook by the River’ pop-up is in full flow, the restaurant in Victoria Park will also remain open for bookings.
