Pupils have been given a first look at their new school as construction work progresses on the new Ysgol Iolo Morganwg in Cowbridge.
School ambassadors recently visited the construction site to see for themselves how work is progressing on the major development, which will double the school’s current pupil capacity.
During the visit, pupils were also given an insight into the construction process, including site safety and the different careers involved in delivering a project of this scale.
They were able to quiz members of the Kier team working on the development about the construction process and what will happen next.
The new purpose-built Ysgol Iolo Morganwg will increase capacity from 210 to 420 pupil places, as well as providing nursery provision for up to 96 full-time equivalent children.
The project is designed to significantly expand Welsh-medium education in the area in response to growing demand across the Vale of Glamorgan.
The new school will replace Ysgol Iolo Morganwg’s existing Victorian-era buildings, which face ongoing maintenance challenges and offer limited opportunities for expansion.
Once complete, the new building will feature modern, flexible and accessible learning spaces designed to meet the needs of pupils while also providing a resource for the wider Cowbridge community and surrounding areas.
Pupils will continue to play a role in the development of their new school.
The next stage will see them take part in a steel-signing event, while there will also be further opportunities for pupils to work with the design team and help shape the school’s planned Eco Hub.
