The Rabbit Run Wales will return in 2027 with a brand new Half Marathon, following the biggest event in the trail race’s history.
Almost 2,000 runners took part in this year’s event, tackling the popular 12K course alongside the new Marathon, Marathon Relay and Ultra distances.

Participants experienced some of the event’s best known features, including running through the private grounds of the Merthyr Mawr Estate, descending the Big Dipper, the highest sand dune in Wales, and crossing the famous river section.
Those taking on the Marathon and Ultra routes also enjoyed the scenery of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, with Ultra runners continuing as far as Llantwit Major.

The event also catered for younger runners, with a Bunny Run, Double Bunny and Toddler Dash helping make it a family friendly day.
Steve Brace, Race Director at Run 4 Wales, said:
“It was a fantastic day for the 2026 Rabbit Run Wales which returned to the Merthyr Mawr Estate with a new Marathon and Ultra distance alongside the much-loved 12K route.
“This event is a true paradise for trail running and we’d like to say thank you to the Merthyr Mawr Estate for once again allowing us to host this event on its grounds, as well as to all of our volunteers giving up their time, whom without this just wouldn’t be possible.”
Organised by Run 4 Wales in partnership with the Merthyr Mawr Estate, the event will return on Saturday 17 July 2027.
Next year’s event will feature the original 12K race, together with the Marathon and Marathon Relay. While the Ultra distance will not return in 2027, organisers have announced a new Half Marathon.
The new route will include many of the highlights of the 12K course, including the iconic Big Dipper, before taking runners along the Glamorgan Heritage Coast through Ogmore and West Farm to Dunraven Bay.
The course will then continue towards St Brides Major, crossing Heol Y Mynydd before finishing back at Merthyr Mawr.
Early bird entries are now available across all race distances, offering runners a £5 saving compared with the standard entry price.
Event weekend camping and Forest Sauna bookings at Candleston Woods will also be available for those looking to turn the event into a full weekend experience.
