Improvement works to refurbish one of Cardiff’s play areas has begun this month.

Llandaff Fields Play area will be undertaking improvements to the play area from October 2021.

All the current play equipment in the play area will remain open for the majority of the works.

Earlier this year, Cardiff Parks Department invited schools from across the city to provide their thoughts and ideas on how the play area could be developed.

Pupils from Creigiau Primary School, Kitchener Primary School, Millbank Primary School, Severn Primary School, St Cuthbert’s Primary, St David’s Primary School, St Monica’s Primary School as well as separate entries from other children submitted their drawings and ideas.

Following the children’s ideas, Cardiff council will be developing the central embankment into a new play feature. It will be increased in height and new rubber surfacing will be added.

Once work is completed, local children will also be able to enjoy:

    • 3 large new slides
    • climbing nets
    • climbing ropes
    • large sphere stepping stones
    • new benches, paths and other climbing play equipment will also be added to the space.

The current play equipment in the play area will be kept and other areas of the play area will be reviewed at a later date.

Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: “We’ve worked closely with children in schools across the city to make sure our refurbishment plans meet the needs of our communities and we’re delighted to make these plans a reality.

“Children benefit so much from being able to meet outdoors and play together so this new and improved play equipment will be a fantastic facility for local families to use.”
