Leading organic farm estate near Corwen, North Wales has joined forces with the Welsh Government Sustainability Cluster to celebrate B Corp Month this March.

As part of the celebration, Rhug Estate are hosting an in-store promotion within their farm shop, featuring a selection of Welsh B Corp food and drink companies. The in-store promotion which is currently running until the end of the month, highlights the commitment of Welsh companies to sustainable and ethical business practices, and provides an opportunity for customers to discover and support local B Corps.

The celebrations at Rhug Estate will feature a range of products from Welsh B Corp food and drink companies, as well as information and resources on the companies and the wider B Corp movement. The following Welsh B Corps are participating in the celebrations; Coaltown Coffee, Drop Bear Beer, Flawsome, Halen Môn, Hilltop and Wholebake. Customers are invited to visit the store and join in the celebrations, supporting local businesses and learn more about how Welsh food and drink producers are working towards creating a sustainable industry.

Alison Lea-Wilson, co-founder of Halen Môn, is one of the Welsh B Corp food and drink companies showcasing their products at the event and shared her excitement about the celebrations,

“We are thrilled to be a part of the B Corp month celebration at Rhug Estate. As a Welsh B Corp, we are committed to using our business as a force for good, and this event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our products and share our values with customers of Rhug.”

The Welsh Government Sustainability Cluster is continually growing and provides a valuable resource for food and drink businesses to flourish and succeed. Through sharing information and best practice, businesses across Wales can access expertise and innovation, market insight, event branding, as well as one to one support for B Corp certification.

Commenting on this partnership with Rhug Estate, Mark Grant, facilitator of the Sustainability Cluster said,

“One of the goals of the Sustainability Cluster is to encourage more businesses to join the B Corp movement and to provide them with the support and resources they need to achieve this certification. We’re delighted that a number of Welsh companies have now become B Corp, and it shows that the industry is moving in the right direction.

“We will continue to work with food and drink companies to grow this number further, and we believe that by working together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.”

Lord Newborough, owner of the 12,500-acre organic farm estate commented on the campaign,

“Creating profit is one thing, but creating a positive impact on society and the environment while doing so is the real game-changer.

“At Rhug Estate we lead from the front by embracing sustainability and encourage others to do the same. That’s the essence of a B Corp and why we are proud to be at the forefront of this important campaign.”

B Corp is considered an international gold standard for sustainability. It involves a holistic approach which requires engagement from all aspects of a business to gain and maintain certification. This includes how the business operates, its structure, its employees and production processes, alongside transparency and accountability.

Businesses wanting to achieve certification undergo the B Corp Impact Assessment which evaluates a company’s practices and outputs across five categories: governance, workers, community, the environment, and customers.

B Corp Month is an annual, global campaign. Every year during March, B Lab and the global B Corp community join together to celebrate everything it means to be a B Corp.
