Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, has confirmed today the new banking hub in Risca is now open at 52 Tredegar Street.

The official opening will take place at 11am on February 14 February, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The hub will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. There is also a community banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the hub. Community bankers are available on the following days:

    Monday: Barclays

    Tuesday: NatWest

    Wednesday: Halifax (am), Santander (pm)

    Thursday: Lloyds

    Friday: HSBC (coming soon)

Finding the right location for a banking hub that is convenient, accessible and works for everyone often takes time, so Cash Access UK is delighted to have been able to secure convenient premises in the heart of the community.

Nine hubs are now open in Wales and two more have been recommended.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “We’re happy to announce that the hub in Risca is moving to a permanent home. This ensures residents and businesses have access to cash and in-person banking services for years to come. The hub will be open five days a week for everyday banking transactions and – for more complex banking inquiries – a community banker will be available on their designated day at the hub.”

Ruth Jones MP: “I’ve visited local banking and Post Office branches in Newport West and Islwyn this summer and I know how essential the financial services they provide are.

“In my experience I’ve found too many people miss out because of where they live. I also know not everyone is comfortable conducting their business online and there should be a suitable face-to-face alternative.

“That’s why I’m so pleased to welcome this banking hub in Risca which should bring power back to the community and allow people to handle their finances closer to home.”
