Saltlake Seafood Co. set to make waves in Porthcawl’s culinary culture

Opening just last month, Saltlake Seafood Co. is one of the five local, independent businesses to occupy a prime spot in the newly developed area at Cosy Corner, Porthcawl.

The £3.8m Cosy Corner development, which has just completed its first phase, has been made possible by funding from the council and Welsh Government, which includes £1m of EU funding from the Visit Wales Tourism Attractor Destination Programme (TAD).

Housed in the new stone and glass building with panoramic views over the channel, the restaurant widens the choice of high-quality eateries available in the area, as well as provides work for the local community.  The majority of employees live locally and are able to travel to work on foot or by cycling, benefitting both the environment and staff wellbeing.

Porthcawl resident and supervisor at the restaurant, Catrin Earl, said: “When told that I had been made a supervisor at the new Saltlake Seafood Co., I was super pleased!  It is such a pleasurable place to work, with a great location!  There is plenty going on in the area and I have the opportunity to meet so many new faces on a daily basis.  I benefit from a short walk to and from work – a commute which really suits me.  I look forward to welcoming everyone!”

Proprietor, Kate Booth, mentions how the restaurant will potentially generate footfall and interest in the harbour area.  Kate highlights some of the features of the business: “The venue has been designed and planned with a fresh east to west aspect, from which customers can experience the sunrise or sunset.

“Our menu offers a wide range of choice and pricing, including takeaway bagels and fresh seafood. Breakfast from 9am or from midday, big fish plates and weekly specials. There are hot or cold drinks, freshly squeezed orange juice, plus alcoholic beverages.

“We hope all patrons will enjoy the Saltlake Seafood Co. concept and feel that the venue compliments other existing trades and new offerings surrounding the Porthcawl Marina.”

Saltlake Seafood Co. offers local employment, an independent business that is specific to the area, as well as quality food – plus the promise of a lovely time for residents and visitors alike!

Whocult Doughnuts, a neighbour business to the restaurant, occupies another of the five commercial units at Cosy Corner.  Harbwr Deli, the third tenant, is currently setting up the establishment in readiness to open, and the further two units have yet to be confirmed.

We will continue to offer any appropriate support to the businesses at Cosy Corner, including helping with the recruitment and training of staff with the assistance of our Employability Bridgend team.

It’s an exciting time for Porthcawl with all of the opportunities and potential that the Cosy Corner development promises.
