TOP South Wales ska band Skalet raised money for City Hospice in a charity gig as part of the charity’s Light up a Life appeal.
The band raised £2925 which has been generously match funded by the Hodge Foundation to bring the total £5,850.
Skalet performed an evening of some of the greatest ska hits at the Earl Haig Club in Whitchurch, with an additional set by DJ Alun Mitchell, organised by City Hospice Ambassador Alastair Milburn.
The evening was a huge success and raised £2,925, with match funding provided by the Hodge Foundation to bring the total to £5,850. All funds raised have gone directly to City Hospice.
City Hospice was established in 1984 to provide community palliative care to the people of Cardiff. Over the four decades since its inception, City Hospice’s services have expanded to meet the needs of its patients, families and the wider community and are celebrating their 40th year in 2024.
In addition to home-based specialist palliative care, the charity now offers welfare advice, complementary therapies, counselling and bereavement support.
Liz Booyse, Chief Executive at City Hospice, said: “We are so grateful to Skalet for making this evening such a success. The money raised will provide vital support to our services in providing care for patients with life-limiting illnesses, and essential counselling and bereavement support services for the families of their patients.
Alastair Milburn, City Hospice Business Ambassador, said: “Skalet have been keen supporters of City Hospice for many years, and have once again raised an incredible amount for the charity.”
Andy Myhill, Skalet lead singer, said: “City Hospice’s work is invaluable and every donation counts towards supporting their work. We were delighted to fundraise for City Hospice, as well as have an incredible evening in the process.” This was the third gig the band has held in recent years in aid of the charity.
In celebration of its 40th year, City Hospice is inviting businesses and community groups to take part in the 40 Charity Challenge and make a significant impact. Each group will be provided with £40, which they will have to transform into a minimum of £1,600 through creative and innovative fundraising in 40 weeks’ time.
