Sony UK Technology Centre (UK TEC) has opened its search for the latest round of talented applicants to join its renowned Apprentice and Graduate schemes. The Pencoed-based facility, which produces HD and 4K broadcast equipment for worldwide distribution, is launching its Apprentice scheme for the 11th consecutive year on 28th November and its Graduate scheme for the 10th consecutive year on 5th December.

Both recruitment initiatives are coordinated by the company’s onsite academy and will enable its participants to gain invaluable knowledge and experience at one of the world’s leading manufacturing sites. The apprenticeship programme provides the opportunity to work to gain a Higher Apprenticeship Qualification such as HNC/HND or degree qualification.

The apprentice programme is looking to recruit enthusiastic and motivated apprentices with an interest in developing their careers in software, electronic and mechanical engineering. Applicants will be invited to an open-event, and those who are successful will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of departments, to enable them to decide where their interests and skills are best suited.

The graduate programme is looking to attract graduates with backgrounds in business management, supply chain and logistics, electrical and electronic Engineering, mechanical and software engineering.

The graduate roles will be supported by an intense 2-year training and development plan which will aim to fast-track successful applicants to higher level positions within the company. Through this process, the graduates will get the opportunity to develop their skills across Sony UK TEC’s diverse professional facility, and this will enable them to experience all the challenges and rewards of working in a modern manufacturing environment.

Throughout the Apprentice and Graduate development programmes, our next generation employees will be exposed to the production of high end 4k broadcast cameras, innovative products such as the Raspberry Pi and Smart IoT and the advancement in technologies such as big data, AI connected systems, advanced robotics, and cutting-edge automation.

So far almost 90 specialists have taken part in the successful development programmes since their inception, with all participants praising its diverse offering.

Kevin Edwards, Director of Engineering said: “Programs that aim to educate and inspire the next generation of Sony team members are an essential commitment for an organisation dependent upon technology and knowledge. Our enthusiastic approach to delivering these schemes provides future specialists across a variety of disciplines.

“We leverage the advantage of mixing high level academic courses with working alongside our innovative and highly skilled team at Pencoed.

“We are particularly proud of our role in developing both specialists and leaders for our next generation supporting our ever-diversifying operation.

“It’s an amazing time to be part of the Sony family, the ability to adapt, to innovate and to embrace new technologies has never been so prominent given the challenges that we have faced over the past year. This is testimony to the agile, highly skilled and committed workforce that we have at Sony Pencoed, a workforce which we will continue to invest in, to develop and build upon these attributes.

“Both the graduate and apprentice development programmes at Sony are an integral part in supporting this, developing future talent, inspiring future leaders and specialists to explore and push the boundaries of the many exciting technological opportunities that lay ahead.”

To apply for an Apprenticeship or Graduate position at Sony UK TEC applicants must have a passion for creating leading manufacturing solutions and the drive to continuously exceed industry standards.

Applications will remain open until all roles are filled.
