Team members at one of Wales’s leading factories have teed off for the 12th year raising over £36,000 in aid of their chosen charity, the Princess of Wales Hospital.

Staff from Sony UK Technology Centre took to the green at the Celtic Manor’s Montgomery Course for the charity event. Throughout the day, those who joined included supporters of the Pencoed facility, suppliers and third-party manufacturing clients, along with local businesspeople, and stars of the sporting world, making up 25 teams in total.

Golfers enjoyed on-course activities throughout the day along with a gourmet BBQ. In the evening, there was an opportunity to bid on auction items and purchase raffle tickets. Purchase of these tickets saw individuals go home with gifts of wine, sporting or theatre tickets, and even a day’s golf experience – all donated by local businesses Sony UK TEC works alongside throughout the year.

The auction also proved a huge success with people taking home prizes ranging from high-end audio products to Sony television systems to donated gifts from several local sporting clubs. This contributed significantly to the end total raised for Princess of Wales Hospital.

Ian Prescott, Compliance Manager and member of Sony UK TEC’s CSR Committee, said: “We are delighted that our annual golf day was another huge success, raising over £36,000 for a charity extremely close to the heart of our organisation.

“The Princess of Wales Hospital has played an absolutely integral role in the treatment of children throughout local communities, so we are proud to be able to support them once again.

“We would like to thank the Celtic Manor for their support in enabling this event to go ahead. We would also like to thank all participants who joined us on the day.

“Sony UK TEC is a community focussed facility, which consistently aims to work for the benefit of the people who have supported its growth.

“As such, it is our privilege to have built up a strong relationship with Princess of Wales Hospital and we look forward supporting them in the years to come.”

The event is part of the Pencoed facility’s continued commitment to supporting and enhancing local communities.

Alongside the work that has been done for the children’s ward in the hospital, the manufacturing facility has also completed projects for the Special Care Baby Unit such as the renovation of the family room and waiting rooms.

So far over £100,000 has been raised for the hospital with fundraising efforts including, charity football days, half marathons, bake sales and annual golf days. Staff from the Pencoed facility have also taken part in a gruelling 300-mile cycle for children battling life threatening illnesses.

With the money raised the children’s ward has received invaluable medical equipment, including three Vapotherm Precision Flow Systems and an AccuVein machine.

Ongoing efforts include a larger project that will see work undertaken on the SCBU family room and the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU).

Sony UK TEC plans to hold a number of other events and initiatives annually to continue raising funds for its chosen charity.
