MUMBLES will welcome a new opticians to its High Street as local owners invest £420,000 in a Specsavers store.

The store, which is opening on Monday 27 November at 10 Newton Road, will be spearheaded by Chris Jones, Lyndsay Hewitt and Dr. Philip Jones, who are also directors of the Swansea Kingsway Specsavers store.

The 12-strong team will include four local new hires – Carys Abood, Fiona Stone, Mandy Evans, and Catherine West, who were all born and raised in the area.

The store will have three optical test rooms, including state-of-the-art hospital grade technology, such as an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, which can screen and help to manage conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. Audiology services will also be available in-store once a fortnight.

Chris Jones, director, says: ‘I spent a lot of my childhood at my grandparents’ house in Blackpill, so Mumbles is a village very close to my heart. Lyndsay, Phil and I are incredibly passionate about giving back to the local community and are pleased to have been able to create jobs for local people. We are also passionate about clinical excellence, and our stores are always at the forefront by volunteering for local enhanced pathways to assist the NHS.’

To mark the launch, the store will be officially opened by Lee Trundle, and they will be running a charity raffle for the RNLI. There will also be cakes and Welsh cakes on offer from neighbouring businesses.

He adds: ‘We’re looking forward to welcoming new patients and customers to our store on 27 November for what we plan to be the first of many community fundraising events.’

    The new store will be open seven days a week, Monday-Saturday 9am – 5:30pm, and Sunday 10am – 4pm.
