Strong interest in new business units in Robertstown

RCT Council has provided a progress update on the construction of 20 modern commercial units in Robertstown – and can confirm it has already received significant enquiries from a number of potential future tenants.

The business units, being built on previously unused land off Wellington Street, are being delivered after the Council secured £3.36m funding from the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. Site clearance took place in early 2020, to enable contractor R&M Williams to start the main construction phase later that year.

The construction phase continues to make visible progress – with residents and visitors able to see the buildings take shape within the development site. All structural steel has been erected and all floor slabs are now complete.

The majority of the roof works are also complete, with external and internal construction of walls now underway to a number of the plots. Cladding works have also commenced recently across several of the buildings.

Councillor Robert Bevan, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development and Housing, said: “I’m pleased the modern unit development in Robertstown continues to make progress, as the Council delivers sustainable economic growth and new jobs locally – while bringing a key employment site back into use as outlined in the Local Development Plan.

“This update follows quickly on from the recent announcement that the Council has secured a tenant for its brand new business unit at Parc Coed-Elái in Coed Ely. The building was completed in January 2021, and also benefitted from significant £2.58m funding from the European Regional Development Fund, with the Council leading on a Joint Venture scheme with Welsh Government for that project.

“It’s also very positive news that the Council has already received tremendous interest from potential tenants for the Robertstown units, giving us further confidence that there is need and demand for these business units locally. With this development made up of 20 units, the Council could accommodate one tenant or a number of tenants across the site – depending on need.

“The Council will provide a further update on the development in Robertstown as new landmarks are reached on site. I’d like to thank local residents for their continued cooperation as the development progresses towards completion.”

All enquiries regarding the units should be directed to the Council’s appointed agents JLL via 029 2022 7666 or [email protected].
