Free town centre Wi-Fi arrives in Tonypandy

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s FREE town centre Wi-Fi scheme is now available in Tonypandy, meaning shoppers, businesses and visitors to the town can now make use of the free public-access Wi-Fi scheme.

Following on from the successful roll-out of the pilot to Aberdare, Mountain Ash, Ferndale, Porth and Treorchy Town Centres, Tonypandy is the 6th out of 7 town centres in Rhondda Cynon Taf the Council has committed to make the scheme available in.

Supporting town centres is a key priority for the Council, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, which has had such a huge impact on residents and businesses.

County Borough Councillor Mark Norris, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said: “I’m pleased to see another town centre up and running and ready to benefit from this latest extension of the Council’s free Wi-Fi scheme.

“The Council is committed to supporting the regeneration of our town centres, and this will support more of our local traders to operate digitally, exploit the opportunities this affords them, increase their online presence and potentially reach a larger customer base. It will also provide an added incentive to residents and visitors to shop locally.

“Like the introduction of the free Wi-Fi in other RCT Towns, the RCTFreeTownCentreWiFi scheme in Tonypandy has been accredited by Friendly Wi-Fi, meaning users can be assured that measures are in place to provide access to appropriate online content only.

“Work is continuing to roll-out this scheme to Pontypridd, which will be the 7th and final Town Centre in RCT to benefit and will also represent the full delivery of this manifesto commitment.”

Residents, visitors and businesses in Tonypandy can now access the free Wi-Fi – just look out for RCTFreeTownCentreWiFi on the list of available networks.

The Council has tested the system and will monitor and review the service usage to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our communities.

Joining the network does not require a password and the Wi-Fi is available between 7am and 7pm in our Town Centres.
