A vegan cafe in Whitchurch is celebrating its successful opening weekend.

Ve Wild Cafe is a vegan, organic, palm-oil free cafe in Whitchurch, in North Cardiff, that offers a sustainable, plant-based menu of sweet and savoury food. It is the first fully vegan and organic cafe to open in the suburb that already has a thriving cafe culture.

The cafe is the brainchild of Maria A Gil and Richard T Horn who say it is their mission to make compassionate living more accessible. Richard said:

“We want to show that going vegan is not a sacrifice but a joy and that vegan food is just delicious.”

Ve Wild offers a range of vegan salads, sandwiches and Paninis, a full range of hot drinks made from a choice of soya, oat, coconut, or hemp milk, as well as fresh juices and smoothies. Daily specials include a freshly-prepared soup and a cold pasta dish made from spelt flour. The dessert cabinet also stocks a range of vegan cakes and desserts. The evening menu includes sharing platters, and a variety of entrees and mains including aubergine moussaka and a plant-based steak.

    Richard said:

“Most of the food is prepared in our premises. We are really grateful to our team, Bex, Ben, Fran, Abhay, Annie, James, Josh, Izzy and Mariam without whom this project would not be possible.”

The cafe avoids ingredients and products that are not sustainable and therefore contribute to the deforestation of our planet. They believe that rainforests are crucial for biodiversity and dietary choices can really make an impact in preventing further damage to our planet.

Ve Wild is open Monday – Friday 8am-9pm, Saturdays 9am-9pm, and Sundays 10am-3:30pm. It can found at 40 Merthyr Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff.
