Swansea BID scheme to brighten up city centre

Swansea City Centre will soon be blooming thanks to a new planting scheme by Swansea BID (Business Improvement District) that will see colour spring up at some of its overlooked kerbsides and small spaces.

Flowers have been planted in Nelson Street, close to Franco’s Café, with other planting schemes planned in suitable spots in the City Centre over the next few months.

The scheme is pressing ahead after Swansea BID’s ambassador canvassed opinions from the businesses she meets each week, on improvements they would like to see, to brighten up their area.

Amelia Rudman, Swansea BID Project Manager, said: “We’re pleased to begin this planting scheme to brighten up the City Centre.  This scheme has come about from our regular face to face contact with our BID area businesses to ask them how they would like to see the City Centre improved. We are happy to respond to their needs and suggestions, so it is great to be able to carry out this planting scheme to bring some extra sunshine to the Swansea BID area.

“Meanwhile, the Swansea City Centre regeneration carries on apace, with the creation of green corridors and welcoming public spaces being central to those infrastructure plans. Landscaping is being carried out on the Kingsway as we speak, and it is important that we do all we can to ensure Swansea City Centre is as attractive and welcoming as it can be, to visitors, residents and businesses.”
