Swansea residents looking to save money are being reminded of the benefits of free library membership as the cost of living crisis continues to take hold.

Seventeen libraries are available in communities throughout the city, with membership giving access to services including free books and events for people of all ages.

Run by Swansea Council, free computer, internet and WiFi use are also available in Swansea libraries, enabling members to access a range of the council’s online services.

These include a dedicated, one-stop shop cost of living help website at www.swansea.gov.uk/costoflivinghelp that gives information on funding support people may be entitled to, as well as signposting services to organisations that can help with debt management and mental health support.

Cllr Elliott King, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Equalities and Culture, said: “We know thousands of families and residents in Swansea will be feeling the financial impact of the cost of living crisis, so we’re doing all we can as a council to give support.

“With so many people looking for ways to save money, now could be a great time for those who aren’t members of our library service to join-up for free.

“Membership gives access to so many free things – from events like reading groups and children’s activities to free electronic book, audiobook, magazine and newspaper access.

“We have a network of libraries in communities throughout the city, so I’d encourage residents who aren’t making the most of the service to find out more.”

Swansea’s libraries also provide a home delivery service for residents who are unable to attend their local library due to health or mobility reasons.
