A Swiss company which has recently opened its first Welsh office is hosting an event in The Shard as part of Wales Week in London.

Electrification and E-Mobility expert Furrer+Frey has been working on the electrification of the Severn Tunnel and will be hosting the event, Infrastructure Showcase: Connecting Communities and Growing Economies, on 14th March on the 17thfloor of this iconic London landmark.

The event will bring together academics, practitioners and infrastructure companies to discuss how infrastructure projects can play a vital role in Welsh economic development. It will include speeches from two Welsh experts Sir Terry Morgan, Chairman of Crossrail Ltd and Professor Mark Barry, Professor of Practice in Connectivity at Cardiff University’s School of Geography & Planning and who was responsible for developing the vision and initial plans for the South Wales Metro.

Director Noel Dolphin said: “Our decision to open an office in Wales was a direct response to the infrastructure challenges and opportunities facing the country. The interest that we have already had in this event is indicative of the fact that we are not alone in seeing the vast potential of the region.

“Wales Week in London is a great opportunity for Welsh businesses, and businesses with a base in Wales, to network and raise the profile of their business with a new market.”

At the end of 2017, electrification system expert Furrer+Frey met with Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Transport, Ken Skates AM and a number of other businesses to help promote Wales as a business destination.

Wales Week in London was first held in March 2017 to promote events and profile-raising opportunities in London for Wales, and Welsh organisations has launched its 2018 events programme.

Furrer+Frey, which is currently working on electrification of the Severn Tunnel, Newport Tunnel and the mainline system (concept) design to Cardiff, was established in 1923 and is still run by the fourth generation of the family.
