A teenager who was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving has been spared jail.
Harley Ryan (19), was 18 at the time of the incident which occurred on Christmas Eve 2024, when he was driving along Kinnerton Road (known locally as the ‘Kinnerton Bumps’) from Pen-Y-Ffordd towards Kinnerton, with three passengers.
Due to the excess speed the car was driven at over a prolonged distance, Ryan lost control, causing the vehicle to swerve off the carriageway, entering a ditch before overturning and ending up further down the road on its roof once again in a ditch.
The three passengers in the vehicle all sustained serious injuries.
At Court last week, Ryan was handed a 2 year suspended sentence, banned from driving for two years and is subject to a curfew by electronic tag from 7pm to 7am for three months.
Speaking after conclusion of Court Proceedings, Detective Inspector Timothy Evans from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: ““It was miraculous that we were not dealing with the deaths of 4 young people on Christmas Eve 2024.
“I would like to thank officers from the Road Crime Unit, all emergency services for their outstanding response, and the work of DC Donna Vernon and Forensic Collision Investigator Dave Hodges to piece together the circumstances of this crash.
“The risks posed by young and inexperienced drivers to themselves, passengers, and other road users concerns me, and this case highlights the personal accountability of an individual’s actions behind the wheel.
“Peer pressure in whether to accept lifts can provide challenges amongst friendship groups, and I would encourage open family discussions regarding potential risks.”
