Tenby School welcomes family education Springboard workshops

Learning Pembrokeshire’s Springboard project started 2023 with an exciting launch at Tenby’s Welsh-medium school Hafan y Môr.

Families enjoyed at least ten different activities as part of the project which runs a wide range of free courses for adults and families in targeted areas.

Springboard staff were delighted with the fantastic turn out at Hafan y Môr and pleased to showcase activities such as mask making, pottery, cake decorating and Lego robotics.

Supporting families to engage in their children’s learning is a key aim of the Springboard project; but the benefits of this work is not only to benefit the children. It benefits parents and grandparents just as much.

There was positive feedback from parents at the event and more than 70 families tried to book on for courses, and more than 100 enquiries were made.

Interest has been so great that since the event all of Springboard’s courses at the school are fully booked and a waiting list is running.

Springboard Advisor Amy Delaney, who will be supporting families at Hafan y Môr on a weekly basis, is really looking forward to welcoming families onto the workshops.

Amy attended a Welsh medium school herself and is keen to support families with their learning journey, whatever their starting point is with the Welsh language.

The Welsh Government’s Springboard slogan ‘It’s never too late to learn’ is something that the Springboard Co-ordinator, Laura Phillips is fully committed to.

“For Springboard to be working with families in a Welsh Medium school is a really exciting venture for us” Laura said.

“It will be very interesting to see what part we can play in supporting families on their learning journeys, especially when it comes to their relationship with the Welsh language.”

Headteacher Victoria Hart-Griffiths is pleased to see Springboard, Learning Pembrokeshire coming to work with families and pupils at Ysgol Hafan y Môr.

Mrs Hart-Griffiths added: “As a school, we have seen the negative impact which Covid has had on family and community engagement, and we welcome the return of activities to the school site.

“The school opens its doors with excitement to embrace the new and valuable learning opportunities, Springboard and the team are offering Ysgol Hafan y Môr and its community.”
