Tens of thousands of visitors headed to Swansea Bay over the weekend as the Wales Airshow returned with another packed programme of world class flying displays, family entertainment and a spectacular new evening event.

The Swansea Council organised event featured breathtaking aerial performances across two days, while the inaugural Afterburn celebration brought together night flying, fireworks and a 200 drone display in a memorable finale.

Set against the backdrop of Swansea Bay, the first ever Afterburn event proved a huge hit, with visitors describing the experience as “awesome” as they sang along to the accompanying music.

Although the Red Arrows were unable to attend this year’s event due to their summer tour of the United States, the drone display paid tribute to the famous display team by forming the unmistakable shape of the iconic jets.

Andrew Williams, Cabinet Member for Development, said the Afterburn drone display was a fitting tribute to the Red Arrows and delighted thousands of visitors.

He said: “The Wales Airshow once again proved why it is one of Swansea’s flagship events, attracting thousands of visitors to our beautiful seafront for a fantastic weekend of entertainment.

“The incredible aerial displays, family attractions, and vibrant atmosphere created a memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.

“Events like the Wales Airshow play an important role in supporting our local economy, showcasing Swansea as a premier visitor destination, and bringing communities together.

“I’d like to thank everyone who attended, as well as our sponsors, partners, performers, volunteers and council staff, whose hard work and dedication helped make this year’s event such a tremendous success.”

The daytime flying programme featured a host of crowd pleasing displays, including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which this year showcased the iconic C47 Dakota, one of the best known aircraft of the Second World War.

Several acts made their Wales Airshow debut, including the Starlings Aerobatic Team, the AH 64E Apache helicopter and the Grumman Firecat water bomber, whose dramatic water drop over Swansea Bay drew one of the biggest reactions of the weekend.

Visitors also enjoyed displays from the Rolls Royce Spitfire, the AeroSuperBatics Wingwalkers and the Firebirds Display Team, alongside appearances from the Jet Pitts, Gazelle Squadron and Navy Wings.

Away from the skies, families explored the military village, watched live performances, enjoyed interactive attractions, browsed trade stands and sampled food and drink from across the event site.

From aviation enthusiasts to families enjoying a day at the seaside, the Wales Airshow once again delivered a weekend packed with entertainment for all ages.
