A newly-qualified driver who has recently completed Transport for Wales’ train driving apprenticeship has been crowned Apprentice of the Year at this year’s Skills Academy Wales Awards.

The award ceremony took place on 7 November 2023, at the Skills Academy Wales Neath Port Talbot Campus. Each year, the event serves as a platform to honour and showcase exceptional individuals and businesses from across Wales.

The awards are dedicated to celebrating the fantastic achievements of those engaged in Skills Academy Wales’s work-based learning programmes throughout 2022/2023.

A huge congratulations to Jamilla Fletcher on her well-deserved win for all her hard work this year.

Michael Duffy, Jamilla’s Driver Team Manager said: “Jamilla was an excellent candidate as a trainee driver, amongst a high standard of drivers we have recruited.

“She is incredibly professional within her role and she brings enthusiasm with her by the bucketful. Jamilla is a credit to the others that she trained with and also to TfW.

“Well done to all the new drivers and congratulations to Jamilla.”

Operations Training Manager Adam Bagwell (pictured with Jamilla) added:  “I’d like to congratulate Jamilla and I’m absolutely thrilled that she has won this award.

“Her hard work and dedication to her learning throughout her training and beyond has been exemplary, and she did it all with a huge smile on her face too.

“I’m sure she will continue to be an inspiration to other trainees who are about to embark on their learning journey.”
