The Welsh Vegan Festival returns to Cardiff for 2022

One of Wales most popular food and drink festivals is bouncing back after the pandemic.

The first Welsh Vegan Festival took place in 2016, attracting thousands of visitors from across Europe and beyond, and quickly established itself in Cardiff’s cultural calendar.

And after being put on ice during the covid pandemic, organisers are thrilled to be heading back.

The event features scores of stalls serving hot and cold food and drink, cosmetics, clothing, and accessories – all entirely free of animal products.

There is also a programme of talks and activities round a vegan theme, including “Veganism is on the rise and so are the questions about it. Where do you get your protein? Isn’t the soya you eat destroying the planet? Eating meat is natural, isn’t it? In this talk, Viva! Campaigner Rory Cockshaw covers the most frequently asked questions on the impact of veganism in respect to your health, the planet and animal welfare”

The event is organised by Farplace Animal Rescue and raises funds for the charity’s shelter as well as showcasing a lifestyle free from animal products.

Kerri Turner, head of fundraising at Farplace, said: “It is so great to be back.

“We love bringing the vegan festival to Cardiff and welcoming vegans, vegetarians and even meat-eaters who are curious about a plant-based lifestyle.

“It’s always great to see vegans happy tucking in to amazing food and stocking up on treats to take home – and see non-vegans amazed at how tasty vegan food can be.”

But Kerri said as well as being a great day out, the festival would also raise vital funds for Farplace, which like many charities and organisations has been hit very hard by the covid pandemic.

She added: “After the restrictions and our all events being cancelled, the rescue like many others has had a very hard two years.

“And we can’t wait to be back raising vital funds for the animals at Farplace Animal Rescue.”

The Welsh Vegan Festival is on Sunday 7th August 2022 – The Tramshed, Cardiff 10.30am – 5pm.

Entry Fee is £3 on the door or in advance online with kids coming free.

There are also VIP tickets available (online only) for £15 which include early entry to the festival and a goodie bag.
