Mother’s Day is one of those occasions where the focus is firmly on treating someone special, and while dining out is often the default option, there’s something particularly appealing about recreating a restaurant-quality experience in the comfort of your own home.
That’s exactly the idea behind the Côte at Home Mother’s Day box from Côte Brasserie, which offers a carefully curated feast designed to deliver classic French flavours with minimal effort in the kitchen. For our celebration, we opted for the show-stopping Chateaubriand box – a centrepiece meal built around one of the most indulgent cuts of beef.

Inside the box we found everything needed for a generous roast-style feast. The menu included the Chateaubriand itself alongside Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, pumpkin gratin, braised red cabbage and a shallot & thyme jus. Aside from a few simple kitchen staples such as olive oil, salt and pepper, everything required to create the meal was included, making the experience refreshingly straightforward.

Thoughtful preparation makes cooking easy
One of the most impressive elements of the Côte at Home experience is just how clearly the cooking process has been designed. The instruction sheet is laid out with cooking times clearly listed down the left-hand side, making it easy to see at a glance when each component needs attention.

Rather than overwhelming you with instructions all at once, the guide walks you through the preparation step-by-step. While one part of the meal cooks, the instructions naturally move you on to the next task, ensuring everything comes together at the right time without any last-minute panic. It’s the kind of thoughtful approach that makes the experience accessible even for those who might not feel entirely confident preparing a multi-dish roast.

Each individual item is also labelled with a full ingredient list and clear allergen information, something that adds an extra level of reassurance when preparing the meal.
A standout centrepiece

The Chateaubriand itself certainly looked the part before it even hit the pan. Thick, beautifully cut and promisingly marbled, it had all the hallmarks of a premium centrepiece.

Once cooked, it delivered exactly what you’d hope for from such a celebrated cut. Tender, juicy and full of flavour, it formed the perfect anchor for the meal, pairing wonderfully with the rich accompaniments that surrounded it on the plate.
Surprising highlights among the sides
While the beef might take centre stage, the supporting dishes more than held their own.

The pumpkin gratin was perhaps the biggest surprise of the meal. Not necessarily a traditional roast dinner staple, it proved to be a delicious addition. Soft roasted pumpkin layered with a creamy, cheesy topping created a dish that balanced sweetness and savoury richness beautifully. Each forkful delivered comforting, warming flavours that almost felt autumnal in character, while still sitting perfectly alongside the beef.

Braised red cabbage can be something of a love-it-or-hate-it side dish, but for fans of the classic accompaniment this version hits the mark. Gently sweet with a soft, slow-cooked texture, it added both colour and depth to the plate.
Bringing everything together was the shallot & thyme jus. Rich and glossy, the sauce delivered deep savoury notes while the thyme added an aromatic, slightly earthy lift that complemented the beef perfectly.
Generous portions all round
Another pleasant surprise was the portion size. While the box is designed to serve two people, the overall quantity of food felt particularly generous. In fact, we would go so far as to say there’s comfortably enough food for three diners – with the only exception being the Yorkshire puddings, where the quantity is more in keeping with a traditional two-person serving.

It’s always reassuring when a meal kit leans towards abundance rather than restraint, particularly when the aim is to create a celebratory occasion.
A minor hiccup with the potatoes
The only small issue we encountered came with the roast potatoes. The cooking instructions on the main sheet differed slightly from those printed on the sleeve the potatoes came in, particularly when it came to oven temperature.
In the end, we opted for a practical compromise – starting the potatoes at the higher temperature for the first 15 minutes to help them crisp up, before lowering the heat when adding the other items to the oven for the remainder of the cooking time. Thankfully, the result was a tray of golden, crispy roast potatoes that were well worth the effort.
Ending on a sweet note
Dessert brought the meal to a satisfying close with a rich chocolate financier served alongside sour cherry compote and vanilla crème fraîche.

The financier itself was dense, indulgent and deeply chocolatey, with a soft, almost gooey texture when served warm. The vanilla crème fraîche added a gentle creaminess that balanced the richness of the chocolate, while the sour cherry compote introduced a bright, slightly tart contrast.

The interplay of temperatures and textures made the dish particularly enjoyable – warm chocolate, cool crème fraîche and the vibrant fruit compote coming together in a dessert that felt both comforting and elegant.
At £59.95 for the complete box, it offers an impressive amount of food and quality ingredients, making it a great value option for a relaxed yet indulgent Mother’s Day celebration at home.
A wider celebration from Côte
The Côte at Home boxes are just one part of Côte Brasserie’s wider plans to celebrate Mother’s Day.
For those who prefer to dine out, Côte’s elegant brasseries will also be offering a special Mother’s Day experience in restaurants across the UK. The day begins with a dedicated breakfast menu featuring favourites such as creamy scrambled eggs on seeded sourdough topped with delicate beetroot-smoked salmon and a wedge of fresh lemon.
Guests can enjoy breakfast dishes alongside coffee or tea and a cold-pressed juice from £16.50, and for anyone looking to add an extra touch of celebration, Côte has partnered with Champagne Lanson to offer a Mother’s Day upgrade – allowing diners to add a glass of Champagne for £10.
Later in the day, a special set menu priced at £32.50 for two courses or £37.50 for three will showcase many of Côte’s most popular dishes, including French onion soup, moules marinière and classic steak frites.
For a memorable finishing touch, Executive Chef Steve Allen formerly of Claridge’s and Pétrus, has also created a limited-edition dessert for the occasion. A vibrant lime and mandarin éclair served with raspberry sorbet and white chocolate shards.
