Three stolen vehicles have been recovered in and around Newport following a series of police operations carried out by Gwent Police’s Roads Policing and Dog Section.
Officers located a stolen Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3 and Fiat 500 during separate incidents, with one arrest made and enquiries continuing to identify a driver who fled the scene.
The first vehicle, a Volkswagen Golf, was found parked in Caerleon displaying false registration plates.
Following an inspection, officers confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from the Avon and Somerset area. The car was recovered for forensic examination and handed over to Avon and Somerset Police for further investigation.
In a separate incident, an Audi A3 failed to stop for officers in Duffryn.
A police pursuit was authorised and the vehicle was brought to a stop using a stinger device. The Audi was later discovered abandoned in the Maesglas area.
Checks confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from the Surrey area. It has since been recovered for forensic examination and handed over to Surrey Police.
Meanwhile, officers also recovered a Fiat 500 that had been reported stolen in the Newport area.
The vehicle was spotted on the Coldra roundabout and a pursuit was initiated. After being stopped using a stinger device, the vehicle lost control and the occupants fled on foot.
One passenger was quickly detained by officers after an unsuccessful attempt to escape.
Police said the individual was found in possession of a small quantity of cannabis and will be interviewed at a later date.
Enquiries are continuing to identify and locate the driver of the vehicle.
Gwent Police said all three vehicles have been recovered as investigations continue.
