Three Ways to Save on Fuel in 2022

You won’t have failed to notice that fuel prices have spiralled upwards in recent months. You’ll notice it in the newspapers and at the pump, where a full tank of petrol has begun to exceed £100 for even smaller hatchbacks. Whether you’re a business looking to save on your fuel costs or you’re an individual consumer hoping to reduce this part of your expenditure, any savings you can make can help you through uncertain times. Here are three key ways in which you can save on fuel costs in the remainder of this year.

    Driving Style

Most drivers consider their driving style to be perfect. That’s not surprising, seeing as drivers will feel that motoring is second nature if they’ve been on the roads for some years. The truth, though, is that some motorists are bringing through more fuel than others despite driving the same routes in the same cars. Why is this? It’s a matter of driving styles.

If you want to save on fuel, you should think about adapting your driving style to make it as fuel-efficient as possible. Accelerate slowly, keeping your revs down. Don’t leave your car idling unnecessarily. Change up sooner when you’re going through the gears so that your engine never whines. Plus, try not to exceed 65 miles per hour on faster roads, as speeds over this can often reduce your fuel economy.

    Fuel Cards

You can secure yourself a fuel card if your driving is part of your working life. Businesses especially can benefit from the acquisition of a fuel card, as they’ll find themselves driving a great deal and burning through higher quantities of fuel than your average consumer. Before you purchase a fuel card, do a little research to find the rates that suit you perfectly. Usually, you’ll select the fuel card of the cheapest local fuel station to your home or business.

Fuel cards are a great way of keeping track of your spending on petrol or diesel, which means that you can factor this cash into your accounts. For firms that are struggling with the rising costs associated with inflation, a fuel card will also provide relief in the form of VAT breaks and discounts.

    Alternate Transport

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that there are always alternative forms of transport that you can take. If you’re used to driving into town to do your weekly shop, you might never have considered that you live close to a bus stop that can take you there for far less cash than you’d spend on fuel. Of course, the bus can seem inconvenient, but arriving just in time at the stop is something you can plan for.

Meanwhile, consider walking and cycling more to save on transport costs entirely, especially during the warmer months that we’re currently experiencing. You should aim to cut out all but essential journeys in your car or van to save cash on fuel in the long run.

These tips are shared to help you bring down the cost of your fuel, which is one of the main consumer products to have risen in price in recent months.
