    Two people charged in Pontprennau shooting

    South Wales Police is continuing to investigate a shooting which happened in Clos Y Fynnon, Pontprennau, Cardiff at approximately 8pm on Saturday, June 7.

    A 15-year-old boy was shot but thankfully his injuries are not life-threatening.

    Two people have been charged and are due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, June 19).

    Ashley Corbin, 20, from Bristol, and a 17-year-old male, also from Bristol, who cannot be named legally because of his age, have been charged with two offences:

    • On 07/06/2025 at Cardiff conspired with others to have a firearm, namely a shotgun, with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.
    • On 07/06/2025 at Cardiff conspired with others to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

    They were arrested in the Bristol area on Monday, June 16.

    Detective Superintendent Mark O’Shea, from South Wales Police, said:“This has and continues to be a complex investigation led by the Major Crime Investigation Team of South Wales Police.

    “We have deployed all available detectives into this case, to ensure a robust policing response, reflective of our determination to relentlessly pursue anyone who chooses to bring firearms into our communities.

    “During the investigation, we have been working closely with Avon and Somerset Police which has resulted in several arrests.

    “Now that two people have been charged, we can also confirm that four other people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

    “Due to sensitive operational reasons, we have been unable to provide this information publicly until now.

    “I would like to thank the community of Cardiff for their continued understanding and for the support provided to our detectives.

    “Valuable information from the community has contributed to the significant progress we have made since this incident has happened.

    “The victim’s family has been updated on developments, and they continue to be supported.”

    Three others arrested in connection with the incident are on police bail pending further enquiries into unrelated matters.

    They are an 18-year-old woman from Newport, a18-year-old man from Cardiff, and 22-year-old man from Newport.

    A 22-year-old man from Bristol has been bailed in relation to the shooting.

    Officers are continuing their appeal for information and are appealing to motorists driving in the area at the time.

    Anyone who travelled through Pontprennau or Pentwyn, who may have used Church Road or the A4232 (Pentwyn link road) between 7pm and 7.50pm on Saturday, June 7, is urged to submit their dashcam footage.
