The 2025 U20 Six Nations Women’s Summer Series has been hailed a resounding success after three weeks of international rugby action hosted at the Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach.

The event, delivered in partnership with Six Nations Rugby Ltd and Caerphilly County Borough Council, saw six U20 women’s national teams from across Europe compete in a high-performance environment, right in the heart of Caerphilly.

France finished the tournament unbeaten, showcasing exceptional talent throughout the series and securing their place at the top of the table. But beyond the on-pitch performances, the tournament marked a significant milestone in the development of women’s rugby and community engagement.

All fixtures were free to attend, allowing the local community to witness international-level rugby up close and support the future stars of the sport. The open access and warm welcome added to the atmosphere and made a lasting impression on visiting teams and officials.

Alice O’Callaghan, Development Competitions and Events Manager at Six Nations Rugby Ltd, said:

“We are delighted with the success of the 2025 Six Nations Women’s Summer Series and grateful to Caerphilly County Borough Council for their fantastic support in hosting this event at the Centre of Excellence in Ystrad Mynach. The team at the Centre of Excellence were outstanding to work with and the facilities provided a high-performance environment for our teams. The warm welcome from the local community made this a memorable experience for all involved. The Summer Series is a key step in the development of the next generation of international players, and Caerphilly has played a central role in making that possible.”

Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, added:

“This has been a brilliant event for Caerphilly. It’s not every day you see international teams training and competing on our doorstep, and I’m proud of the role our staff, facilities and community played in making it happen. The Centre for Sporting Excellence delivered a professional and welcoming experience throughout, and it’s clear this tournament will leave a legacy for women’s sport locally and nationally.”
