Vale Council unveils new nature-themed play area

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has opened a highly-anticipated play area in Rhoose.

A group of children from local play group Passport to Play were among the first to enjoy the new facilities at Celtic Way Park.

The nature-themed play area is now home to a set of swings, a roundabout, a seesaw, slides – many of which are accessible – as well as a handful of sensory activities.

A number of biodiversity improvements were also made prior to construction on the play area, including bulb, wildflower and tree planting with the help of Vale Local Nature Partnership and local community group, Replant Rhoose.

Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: “It is wonderful to see that the new play area at Celtic Way Park is now complete and open to the public.

“The plans for the new improvements were finalised back in 2024 following a consultation with residents and community groups – thank you to everyone who took the time to help shape this project.

“I hope that the play area will be enjoyed by children and their families for many years to come!”

The project comes after local ward members – Councillor Hennessy, Councillor Bruce and Councillor Campbell – initially put forward a suggestion to explore options for upgrading the play area.

A consultation with the community then followed in 2023 to determine the priorities for upgrading the park.

The Playground company Kompan worked in partnership with the Council to design and build the new play area at Celtic Way Park.

The improvements to Celtic Way Park were paid for with funding secured through Section 106, which requires developers to ring-fence a portion of investment for local projects.
