beraman Ladies & Girls Football Club has scored after local renewable energy company, Pennant Walters, has stepped in to provide vital funding to help the club after it has experienced unprecedented growth.
The Club, which was set up in 2019 in response to local needs, has experienced huge growth and now has over 120 players who train and play on a regular basis. It now caters for girls aged 4-16, whilst also running a female senior side, but required funding to ensure it could meet the growing demand.
Pennant Walters, which is committed to supporting communities close to its wind energy projects, donated £2,500 to the football club, which will go towards training equipment and essential kit, whilst also supporting existing and new coaches to ensure they receive adequate training.
Chairman and coach at Aberaman Ladies & Girls FC, Kelly Reddy, explains:
“We set up the club just before the pandemic and have been astounded by how quickly our membership has grown.“We are dedicated to the promotion of female football amongst our local community and the girls and ladies are thriving!
This funding is fantastic – it will now allow us to ensure we have trained coaches to develop our girls, whilst also kitting out all sides with balls and training equipment.
“On behalf of everyone in the team I’d like to say a huge thanks to Pennant Walters – without donations and support like this, we wouldn’t be able to survive, and our young girls would miss out.”
Aberaman Ladies & Girls FC play at Treaman Field in Aberaman and use Aberdare Sobell centre 3g and Abercynon Leisure 3g pitches to train all year round.
The funding is linked to Pennant Walters’ 9 turbine 22 MW Mynydd Bwllfa windfarm near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf, which became operational in summer 2015. It builds on previous donations which have seen the company provide money to support various local community groups.
