The best site managers in house building in Wales gathered to celebrate their achievements at NHBC’s Pride in the Job 2021 Awards which were held in Cardiff last week.

Organised by NHBC, the UK’s leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes, the awards are the most highly regarded in the house building industry. They recognise site managers dedicated to achieving the highest standards in house building and committed to building homes of outstanding quality for their customers.

Steve Wood, NHBC Chief Executive, small category winner Stephen Kirkwood, NHBC Regional Director (Wales) Luke Carter

A series of regional events are taking place throughout September, October and November providing the opportunity to celebrate the Quality Award winners and announce the Seal of Excellence and Regional winners in Pride in the Job’s 41st year.

Judging for the Awards is rigorous, with each site manager assessed across six key areas: consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety.

Over four decades, Pride in the Job has underpinned NHBC’s core purpose of supporting the delivery of high-quality homes. By recognising the very best site managers across the UK, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence, the competition celebrates the vital role that site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.

The competition is splits between three categories of businesses: small, medium and large house builders, plus a multi-storey category for site managers working on projects of five storeys or more.

    This year’s Regional winners were:

    Small builder category

    Stephen Kirkwood

    Salem Construction Ltd
    Pludds Meadow
    Laugharne

    Medium builder category

    Dave Hodges

    Llanmoor Development Co Limited
    Cae Sant Barrwg
    Bedwas

    Large builder category

    Craig Thomas

    Redrow South Wales
    Mill Meadows
    Sudbrook

Commenting on the Awards, NHBC Chief Executive, Steve Wood said: “Pride in the Job has been pivotal in improving the quality of new homes for more than 40 years and, after such a tough period for the country, it’s fantastic to be able to celebrate them in person this year. Despite the numerous challenges the industry has faced, the very best site managers of 2021 have remained focused on delivering high quality new homes for their customers.

“A site manager’s role is one of the most challenging in house building and recognising their persistent drive for excellence is very much at the heart of the competition. Receiving a Seal of Excellence Award is a great achievement for any site manager and a Regional Award even more so, placing them at the top of their profession. It’s no surprise that Pride in the Job winning sites have higher levels of customer satisfaction. The homes being built are amongst the best the UK has to offer.”

“Congratulations to all the 2021 Pride in the Job Seal of Excellence and Regional Award winners – you are building the future, be proud of your achievements!”

The Regional award winners will now go forward to compete for the ultimate prize in house building, the Pride in the Job Supreme Awards which will be unveiled at a gala ceremony in London in January 2022.
