Wales International could return to Cardiff City this summer after a failed January move

Kieffer Moore could rejoin Cardiff City from Bournemouth this summer as The Bluebirds renew their interest in the Wales international.

Moore was Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut’s top target in January, but a move failed to materialise. The striker instead joined Ipswich Town on loan from Bournemouth and played a central role in their Premier League promotion push.

The 31-year-old has been linked with a return to Cardiff City in the last two transfer windows, and recent reports suggest the club remain interested in him. Their interest is well-founded, given the evident lack of a natural goalscorer in the current squad.

Moore previously had a fruitful two-year stint at Cardiff City Stadium, bagging 25 league goals in 64 appearances. The frontman’s aerial ability and physical presence make him a perfect fit for the relentless nature of the Championship calendar. His impressive form during his time at Cardiff also cemented his place in the Wales squad.

Moore has now played 43 times for his country, bagging 12 goals. He was a mainstay in the Wales team that played at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was also part of the Welsh squad that narrowly missed out on qualification for Euro 2024 after losing a playoff with Ukraine.

His club career has stalled somewhat since his £5 million move to Bournemouth. He was getting plenty of game time initially, but his role has shrunk since the arrival of Spanish manager Andoni Iraola. When discussing the Cherries’ summer transfer plans, Iraola indicated it would be up to Moore if he wants to leave this summer.

Iraola’s stance and Moore’s lack of playing time may force the striker to strongly consider any move away he can get. Despite his troubles on the south coast, his loan stint at Ipswich last season showed he can still perform at Championship level.

Cardiff manager Erol Bulut is a big fan of Moore and will likely push The Bluebirds to pursue him again this summer.

Given the success of his first stint at the club and his proven ability at Championship level, Kieffer Moore could prove to be an astute signing for Cardiff. However, it remains to be seen if they can get a deal done.
