Police are investigating a series of burglaries in Cardiff where offenders have entered homes while residents were inside and asleep.

South Wales Police say four so called “creeper” burglaries have been reported in the Riverside area since Friday, March 20. The incidents have taken place at properties on Littleton Street, Wyndham Place, Neville Street and Craddock Street.

A creeper burglary involves someone gaining entry through an unlocked door or window while occupants are at home, often during the night.

Officers have confirmed that in each of the recent cases, entry was gained through insecure doors. Residents are now being urged to make sure both front and back doors are locked overnight.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “We understand that being a victim of burglary is traumatic, and we are working hard to catch the person responsible.

“While our investigation and patrols are ongoing, please take extra steps to protect your home.”

Police are also asking people in the Riverside area to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Wales Police quoting reference number 2600082345.

Reports can be made online via the South Wales Police website, by calling 101, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always dial 999.
