Waterloo Tea to open fifth venue in Cardiff

Independent tea specialists Waterloo Tea will open a fifth site in Cardiff this week; bringing the portfolio up to a total of five chef-led teahouses.

As one of the largest independent importers in the UK, Waterloo Tea has built its reputation on carefully selecting and importing a unique range of speciality teas.

By working directly with growers in India, China, Japan, Sri Lanka and Taiwan, it has built strong connections with small farms who share the same attention to detail and passion for excellence, whilst supporting communities with fair prices and ethical trade.

This passion for detail extends to its award-winning tea houses dotted around Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Each has an individual look and feel but shares the same focus on great tea and coffee served accompanied by a chef-led menu of fresh food prepared in-house.

The doors to the newest cafe on Whitchurch Road were thrown open on September 23rd, and as with all of Waterloo Tea’s spaces, it was restored and renovated with a view to maintain the history of the building, so that the character of both the external and internal design reflects the locality.

The opening coincides with the launch of a new Autumn menu across all Waterloo Tea sites, with a range of dishes featuring tea as a key ingredient; from the beans on toast with a smoked tea infused tomato sauce, to the Welsh Rarebit with leeks, smoked cheese & Yunnan tea, and an Autumn salad with beets, kale, lentils & apple with a hibiscus tea vinaigrette.

Waterloo Tea founder Kasim Ali said “Whitchurch Road does seem as if it’s on the cusp of being a high street that mirrors the needs of its local residents so we are thrilled to be joining the eclectic mix of independent businesses who have already made it such a great place to be.”

Waterloo Tea not only supplies its own bricks and mortar venues across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, but also has a growing wholesale operation that extends through the UK and Europe.
