Ongoing improvements at Duke Street Car Park in Aberdare Town Centre are progressing towards completion, and a week-long closure of the facility is required shortly to undertake the main resurfacing element of the work.

The Council started work in early September 2025 to undertake pedestrian access and drainage improvements, along with the main resurfacing activity that encompasses the entire car park. This involves the current blockwork being removed, with some of the existing paving blocks having been installed almost 30 years ago – many of which have become loose or started to sink.

The car park has remained open throughout, with an unavoidable reduction in the car park’s capacity on a temporary basis due to the nature of the work. Thanks to visitors to Aberdare, and to the wider town centre community, for your continued cooperation as the scheme makes important progress.

A full closure of Duke Street Car Park is now required over one week, to complete the resurfacing element of the scheme. This will take place from Monday, November 3, up to and including Monday, November 10.

Alternative long-stay parking is available in and around Aberdare Town Centre, in Council-owned car parks at Crown Buildings, Nant Row, Rock Grounds and the Ynys. Gadlys Pit Car Park is also a long-stay car park available to relevant permit holders. Short stay parking (up to four hours) is located at Aberdare Library, Green Street and High Street car parks.

The alternative waiting arrangements in place of the taxi lane located within Duke Street Car Park will be continuing until the end of the scheme.
