Part of a major road in Newport will be closed this weekend as resurfacing work continues.
Newport City Council has confirmed the next phase of improvement works on Malpas Road will take place from Saturday, March 28.
Weekend road closure
The work will involve resurfacing both sides of the road between the M4 Junction 26 roundabout and the northernmost entrance to Goodrich Crescent, opposite the Lyceum Tavern.
Closures will be in place from 10.30pm on Saturday through to 5.30am on Monday, March 30, meaning the road will be shut on Sunday, March 29.
A provisional extra shift has also been scheduled between 11.30pm on Monday and 4am on Tuesday, March 31, if required. The council said it will provide an update via social media if additional work is needed.
All timings remain subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Access and diversions
Residents will still be able to access Goodrich Crescent and Brynglas via the Harlequin roundabout, Brynglas Road and Aston Crescent.
All other traffic will be diverted, with signed routes in place throughout the closure.
The council is advising anyone travelling in the area to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journey.
Ongoing works
The resurfacing forms part of a wider programme of improvements on Malpas Road, following earlier work completed last month.
Further weekend closures are expected after Easter, with dates to be confirmed.
The council acknowledged the disruption caused by the works and thanked residents and visitors for their patience while the improvements are carried out.
