CAERNARFON residents are being invited to come and celebrate the opening of Cancer Research Wales’s new shop in the town on Saturday 15 March.
The Mayor of Caernarfon – Councillor Dewi Jones, will be cutting the ribbon at the Welsh cancer research charity’s shop on 11 Pool Street at 10.00am.
Cancer Research Wales’s new mascot – Stripe the Dragon, will also be making a special appearance at the shop opening.
Lorraine Boyd, Head of Retail at Cancer Research Wales said: “I’m excited to be opening our new shop in Caernarfon – the town of the Cofis, with its incredible history and heritage and stunning location on the banks of the Menai Strait.
“This is the fourth Cancer Research Wales shop we’ve opened in North Wales in less than 12 months and I’m grateful to Councillor Dewi Jones for coming to cut the ribbon and officially open the Caernarfon shop for us this Saturday morning.
“Cancer Research Wales is the only charity wholly dedicated to funding research into cancer in Wales and we invest all our research funding in Wales, so please come along and support us by shopping; donating your pre-loved goods and volunteering with us in Caernarfon.”
The Caernarfon store will sell top-quality goods including women’s, children’s and men’s clothing, a range of household items and bric-a-brac and provide job and volunteering opportunities.
It is decorated in Cancer Research Wales’s distinctive coloured stripe branding logo which is inspired by DNA sequencing gels used by scientists to find cancer cells.
In a nod to Caernarfon’s history, local place names including Twthill, Y Maes and Cei Llechi have been incorporated into the shop’s branding.
Cancer Research Wales ambassador and local businessman, Rob Lloyd, said:
“This is the third shop unit Bearmont construction have completed and had the pleasure of transforming for Cancer Research Wales, and it’s been fantastic to work with their team once again. This particular shop is owned by our sister company, Knightsbridge House Estates. The Caernarfon shop has undergone a complete refurbishment, from a new flat roof and suspended ceiling to fresh flooring, timber repairs, and full redecoration throughout. It’s incredibly rewarding to see previously vacant units brought back to life as bright, clean, and welcoming spaces that not only create local jobs but also support vital research and development in the fight against cancer.”
