Why Cosy Club’s new menu is worth escaping the cold for

Cosy Club has really transformed itself in recent years, carving out its own niche in the foodie scene and standing tall against strong local competition.

Every time we visit, they seem to raise the bar, and the new Autumn/Winter menu only proves that belief right, bringing bold and adventurous new flavours to the table.

It’s been just over six years since Cosy Club opened its second site in the city, Cardiff Bay. Since launching in 2019, it has become a staple of the area, remaining one of the few constants as the Bay has evolved around it. What makes Cosy Club so appealing is how flexible it is. Whether you’re shopping in town and fancy a bite at the St David’s Centre location, or want to escape the festive chaos altogether and relax down the Bay, there’s a Cosy Club to suit your mood.

And of course, part of the charm lies in the restaurant’s setting. With its 1920s-inspired design, Cosy Club oozes old-school glamour and sophistication. Think Great Gatsby with a modern twist. It’s the perfect pre-theatre spot before a show at the Wales Millennium Centre, or simply a lovely place to unwind any time of year.

So, how does the new menu measure up? Let’s take a look.

    Small Plates

We kicked things off with a few small plates. If you’re sharing, three dishes between two is a solid choice and lets you sample a nice mix.

Traditional Iraqi Laffa Flatbread with Butter and Sea Salt (£4.25)

The Traditional Iraqi Laffa Flatbread with Butter and Sea Salt (£4.25) was simple but satisfying. It’s a touch dry on its own, but a good choice to balance out bolder flavours from the other plates.

    Halloumi & Hot Honey (£7.95)

Next up was the Halloumi & Hot Honey (£7.95), served with a mizuna and pickled onion salad. Halloumi lovers will be happy here. The sweet honey comes through first, followed by a gentle kick that keeps things interesting.

    Asian Buttermilk Fried Chicken (£8.25)

Our favourite from the starters was the Asian Buttermilk Fried Chicken (£8.25), coated in a sticky soy, ginger, sesame and chilli glaze. Packed with flavour, the ginger really stood out and gave it a unique twist. Easily something we’d order again.

    Mains

At the heart of the new menu are two standout Malvani curries, inspired by Cosy Club chef Mayank’s family recipe from Malvan, a coastal town in India’s Maharashtra region

    We tried the

    Malvani Chicken Curry (£17.75)

Malvani Chicken Curry (£17.75), featuring chargrilled chicken breast simmered in a rich coconut, red onion and tamarind sauce, served with cumin rice and raita. It’s a comforting, warming dish full of depth and spice. Presentation doesn’t quite do it justice, but the taste absolutely delivers. We saved some flatbread for dipping, which worked perfectly. Generous chicken portions too.

Warm Salad of Harissa & Maple Roasted Carrots (£14.95)

For something lighter, the Warm Salad of Harissa & Maple Roasted Carrots (£14.95) offers a lovely balance. Sweet, smoky carrots meet spiced pumpkin dukkah for crunch, with lemony bulgur wheat and cumin yoghurt to cool things down. A very well thought-out dish.

Seafood fans will want to try the Pan-Fried Sea Bream with Coconut and Kaffir Lime Sauce, paired with lemongrass, chilli and coconut for a rich yet fresh flavour. We didn’t have it this time, but it sounds like a winning choice for those who want something coastal in Cardiff Bay.

    Desserts

    Rich Chocolate Delice (£8.75)

No meal is complete without dessert, and the Rich Chocolate Delice (£8.75) is an indulgent treat. A smooth chocolate truffle on a biscuit base with vanilla pod ice cream and dark chocolate shavings. It’s technically new to the menu, but it feels like a refreshed version of a much-loved classic.

For those who prefer something traditional, the Rhubarb and Bramley Apple Crumble is another solid option, finished with a crunchy topping and served with vanilla ice cream.

    The experience

We visited on a Friday lunchtime, which turned out to be a great choice. The atmosphere was relaxed but lively enough to feel social. Nathan and his team at Cardiff Bay, including Boo!, were brilliant. Attentive, friendly, and great with our little one, Oscar, who was fascinated by the team in action. They knew the menu inside out and helped guide us towards some of the new dishes.

Cosy Club continues to impress with its blend of great food, attentive service, and unique charm. The new menu not only builds on their existing strengths but adds exciting new layers of flavour and creativity.

If you’ve not visited in a while, now’s a great time to go back and rediscover what makes Cosy Club so special.

Cosy Club Cardiff Bay is located at Unit 24, Mermaid Quay, Cardiff, CF10 5BZ.
