Alternative services will be in place for library users in Rhiwbina and the local area next week, as Rhiwbina Library will temporarily close to be developed into a new community hub.

The library on Pen-Y-Dre will close at 5.30pm on Saturday, April 23. Work on its redevelopment will begin in early May and is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

While the refurbishment is being carried out,the service’s mobile library will be available three times a week on Pantbach Road, a short distance from the library on Mondays (1-4pm), Tuesdays (10am – 1pm) and Fridays (1 – 4pm). Customers will be able to choose from a selection of books on the vehicle as well as order titles, collect holds they have placed and access other library services.

Green recycling and food waste bags will also be available here, or from the Co-op on Heol y Deri.

A number of community groups that meet at the library have been re-located to the nearby Canolfan Beulah Community Rooms and Bethany Baptist Church Hall. Library users will also be able to drop off books at Canolfan Beulah Community Room reception.

Customers with mobility issues or who are unable to attend these alternative locations will be able to access the home delivery and click and collect delivery service.

A Cardiff Council spokesperson said: “Community hubs bring more services and improved facilities to an area and the plan in Rhiwbina is for a strong focus on wellbeing.

“We’re grateful to partners in the local area who are helping us to ensure the community can continue to access services and activities. In addition to these alternative arrangements, customers may wish to access services at their nearest community hub in Whitchurch.”
