Experiencing nature’s wonder this autumn is being made even easier thanks to WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre, which hosts its popular ‘Walk with a Warden’ guided tour on September 21.
The walk, which lasts around 90 minutes, is led by a WWT expert, and will take visitors around the 456-acre nature reserve sharing some of the new season’s show-stopping highlights.
The walk will involve attendees exploring and learning more about wildlife, while discovering fabulous fungi, berries and fruits as they venture on to the wetland nature reserve. They’ll also learn insider tips on how to spot the subtle signs and tracks left by wildlife such as otters and learn how to identify a broad range of different wading bird species. All while being uplifted by the seasonal beauty surrounding them.
For those who want to learn more about birds or are interested in wildlife photography, WWT Llanelli is the place to be this autumn. Visitors can experience the exhilarating spectacle of migration, with huge flocks of ducks descending on the reserve to make use of the specially flooded meadows, scattered with summer’s wildflower seeds to feed on. Pintail, Shoveler, Wigeon and Teal arrive in great numbers, finely plumaged ahead of the breeding season.
Meanwhile, masses of migratory waders will be making the stopover to rest, socialise and refuel, before continuing their epic migration south. With its distinctive three-call note, the large Greenshank’s arrival is highly anticipated, and the resident Black-tailed Godwits at WWT Llanelli are expected to be bolstered in numbers as September continues.
On the salt marsh, the striking white figures of charismatic Spoonbills can be seen, a species that is turning up at WWT Llanelli in greater number every year.

Joining the WWT expert for an autumnal Walk with a Warden is fully accessible to all and visitors can also dip in and out of the walk, as they desire.
The Walk with A Warden autumn tours will be held on September 21, October 19 and November 16. Participation in the walk is included in the WWT (centre) admission ticket or are free to WWT members.
